About Me

Hi there! I'm Rae.

Nice to meet you and thanks for checking out my artworks.

I am creative to my core, it's in the genes, with an artist mother and musical father and grandparents.

I have journeyed down the musical path for most of my life and have taught music for 21 years.

In the last few years the 'arty' gene has been screaming and shouting at me to create. I have come to discover and absolutely fall in love with art and painting much later in life and it has given me a new 'spark'.

As well as being an Artist and Musician, I am also a wife, a mother to two busy Baker boys and also 'mum' to a four legged Baker boy.

In March 2020, when things all went incredibly ‘wonky’ and the world stood still, I found that the lack of musical outlet affected my mental health. I needed to find another creative way to calm my mind and soul, so I took up painting.

Initially I explored the medium of acrylic pouring. I found this to be lots of fun, freeing and such a fascinating process. To watch as the final piece reveals itself. This also pushed me way out of my 'clean and tidy' comfort zone. (It's amazing how far acrylic paint will fly when you spin your canvas!)

I have spent the last 4 years working with, experimenting and learning about different paint mediums. As well as the Acrylic pouring, I learned the basics of watercolour painting which lead me to where I am today, painting with gouache.  I absolutely love using Gouache paint to create scenes of mystical woods, wonderous waterfalls and moonlit fantasies.

I have met so many wonderful and talented artists on this journey and found friendship and encouragement. I am still relatively new to the world of ‘Art’, but I am really looking forward to seeing where this journey takes me.

We live in a chaotic, busy and troubled world and we sometimes need to escape from all that and lose ourselves. Be it in a good book, going for a run, listening to soothing music or creating a calming and restful space in your home with a beautiful piece of art.

Come along and follow me on my journey and add yourself to the ever growing collection of 'My Art on your wall'!

  • Golden Waves

"Rae’s abstract paintings always transport you to another place in your imagination and this one is no exception.  It is hung at the top of my stairs where I see it first thing in the morning and late in the evening, when it often causes me to imagine fantastical, unreal landscapes in a mythical land somewhere far away.  It is a lovely addition to my home."
