About Me

Hi there! I'm Rae, the Creative Soul.

It's nice to meet you, and thank you for stepping into my world of color and sound.

I am creative to my core. You could say it’s in my DNA; with an artistic mother and a musical father and grandparents, I was never going to be anything else.

For over 20 years, my primary language was music. Teaching it, living it, and sharing it. But lately, the "arty" gene that had been quiet for so long started screaming to be heard.

The Spark of Change

In March 2020, when the world went "wonky" and stood still, I lost my usual musical outlets. To support my mental health and find a new way to calm my soul, I picked up a paintbrush. It was a revelation. Falling in love with art later in life has given me a brand-new spark, a second creative wind that I never saw coming.

From Chaos to Gouache

My journey began with the messy, freeing world of acrylic pouring. It pushed me far beyond my "clean and tidy" comfort zone (you’d be surprised how far paint flies when you spin a canvas!).

That experiment evolved into a deep dive through various mediums until I found my true love: Gouache. Today, I use the velvety texture of gouache to bring mystical woods, wondrous waterfalls, and moonlit fantasies to life. I’ve found that while music moves the ears, painting captures the eyes, and both have the power to heal.

My World

When I’m not in the studio, I’m a wife and a mother to two busy "Baker boys" (plus one very loved four-legged Baker boy).

We live in a chaotic, busy, and often troubled world. We all need an escape, whether it’s a good book, a long run, or a calming piece of art that turns a house into a sanctuary. I am still relatively new to this world, but I am so grateful for the friendships and encouragement I’ve found along the way.

I’m excited to see where this journey leads. Come along for the ride, and perhaps you’ll find a piece of my heart to hang on your wall!

"Rae’s abstract paintings always transport you to another place in your imagination and this one is no exception.  It is hung at the top of my stairs where I see it first thing in the morning and late in the evening, when it often causes me to imagine fantastical, unreal landscapes in a mythical land somewhere far away.  It is a lovely addition to my home."
